Tantalising evidence of a possible lost city has been picked up by surveys conducted from the air. Archaeologists and filmmakers Steven Elkins and Bill Benenson had hit headlines last year when they announced that they had discovered possible ruins within the dense jungle by flying low over the trees and firing laser pulses at the ground. The technique makes it possible to map the otherwise hidden topography beneath the forest canopy, revealing signs of ancient structures.
The latest set of images taken using this method have revealed yet more evidence for something undiscovered within the Honduran rainforest. Features resembling roads, canals and building foundations could indicate the site of the lost city of Ciudad Blanca, or "The White City," which was said to be filled with gold. The team will be visiting the site on foot later this year to find out once and for all what it is they have discovered. New images of a possible lost city hidden by Honduran rain forests show what might be the building foundations and mounds of Ciudad Blanca, a never-confirmed legendary metropolis.
