Meteor shower in high California desert

Can’t wait for tonight’s Lyrid meteor shower, or can’t watch due to clouds? Check out this beautiful video of the 2010 Geminid shower.

The Lyrid meteor shower happens the weekend of April 19-22, 2013. The peak is tomorrow morning (April 22) before dawn. Though a modest shower, it is nonetheless a great opportunity to stargaze and perhaps catch some meteors whizzing by. Your best chance to watch will be after moonset, an hour or two before dawn breaks on Monday. More about the Lyrids here. While you’re waiting on the Lyrids, check out this video of the 2010 Geminid meteor shower in a high desert region of
California. The Geminids are a more prolific shower, by far, and over the California desert – including the Alabama Hills, Eastern Sierras, Mount Whitney, and Joshua Tree – they must have been very beautiful. Maybe they’ll inspire you to venture into the night tonight. The video is titled “Fleeting Light” and it’s by Henry Jun Wah Lee at Evosia Studios.
