Chemistry needed for life is found on Europa

New research has unveiled the presence of chemicals that could indicate the moon's suitability for life. In a new study, researchers have identified the presence of hydrogen peroxide across Europa's surface, if this manages to seep down in to the liquid oceans below then it could be an important supply of energy for primitive life forms. "Life as we know it needs liquid water, elements like carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur, and it needs some form of chemical or light energy to
get the business of life done," said lead author Kevin Hand. "Europa has the liquid water and elements, and we think that compounds like peroxide might be an important part of the energy requirement." A new paper led by a NASA researcher shows that hydrogen peroxide is abundant across much of the surface of Jupiter's moon Europa.
